Numbering and File Naming
This page explains how items and files are named in the system.
The goal is simple:
- clear names
- no duplicates
- easy searching
- automatic numbering
Contributors do not need to create numbers manually.
Automatic identifiers
DigitalAssets receive an automatic identifier such as:
CH03-ROM-0007
This number is created by the system.
You do not type it yourself.
What the number means
Example:
CH03-ROM-0007
This simply means:
- Chapter 03
- Rome
- item number 7
It is only a label to keep things organized.
It does NOT contain interpretation.
Important rule
Never invent your own numbering.
The system generates identifiers automatically.
File names
Files must use the same name as the DigitalAsset.
Example:
DigitalAsset:
CH03-ROM-0007
File:
CH03-ROM-0007.jpg
This keeps:
- pages and files matching
- everything easy to find
- no confusion
Derivative files
If there are extra versions, add a small suffix:
Examples:
CH03-ROM-0007_master.tif CH03-ROM-0007_web.jpg CH03-ROM-0007_ocr.pdf
What contributors must do
Very simple:
- create the DigitalAsset page
- copy the generated identifier
- upload the file with that name
The rest is automatic.
