Visualizing the Archive: MultimediaViewer

To make the most of the 500GB of visual data, ensure MultimediaViewer is enabled.

1. Improved Cargo Queries

When querying photos of children or buildings, use the `gallery` format. MultimediaViewer will allow you to browse these results in a full-screen slideshow.

{{#cargo_query:
|tables=SanatoriaPhotos
|fields=_value=File
|where=Sanatorium='Zeepreventorium'
|format=gallery
}}

2. Displaying Documents

While PDFHandler shows the first page of your PDF research papers, MultimediaViewer (if configured) or the "Embed" feature allows you to flip through documents without downloading them.

3. Pro-Tip: Image Annotations

Since you are doing historical research, you might want to look into the ImageAnnotator extension as well. It allows you to draw boxes around specific people or architectural features in a photo and add notes that appear when you hover over them.

Managing the Digital Archive (Images & PDFs)

Our archive uses a two-tier system to handle 500GB of historical evidence.

1. Photographs & Postcards

Images are browsed using MultimediaViewer.

  • Click any image in a Cargo table or gallery to open the full-screen Lightbox.
  • Use the arrow keys to quickly review a series of historical photos.

2. Archival Documents (PDFs)

PDFs are handled by PdfHandler.

  • Thumbnails: Cargo queries will show the first page of the document as a preview.
  • Reading: Click the thumbnail to open the document. You can navigate pages using the "Previous/Next" buttons at the top of the file page.

3. Embedding Documents in Research Pages

If a specific PDF (e.g., a 1920 medical report) is central to a page, use the `<pdf>` tag to show it directly in the article:

<pdf width="600" height="800">File:MedicalReport_1920.pdf</pdf>

4. Cargo Query for Mixed Media

Use the `gallery` format to see a mix of images and document previews side-by-side:

{{#cargo_query:
|tables=ArchiveFiles
|fields=_value=File
|where=Tags HOLDS 'Coastal Sanatoria'
|format=gallery
|mode=packed
}}
